High speed hardness measurement of metal-based materials (D02)

Subject Area Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 276397488

The laser-induced shock wave indentation test is a method for efficient characterization of metallic materials. The aim of the project is to extend the measurement method by means of an in-situ measurement to derive further characteristic values with a measurement time below 1 s per indentation describing the elastic-plastic deformation behavior in automated high-throughput. The approach is to measure the indenter movement during indentation together with the force-time curve (caused by the laser-induced shock wave) to find further correlations (in addition to the identified correlations with hardness and tensile strength) with mechanical material properties.
