The project focuses on the transformation of the economic roles of the state in the Federal Republic of Germany. It is based on three central ideas: The first is to investigate the economic roles of the state extensively and to focus on both provision and regulation. Secondly the project includes a long period of time in order to take fractures and discontinuities into account. The third consideration is to focus on nationalization and denationalization not as fiscal or economic topics but as political projects. So the emphasis of the analysis lies on forms of defining, justifying and legitimizing the states economic roles
