This project aims on the realization of fiber-based materials, which integrate additional features such as sensors or transparency. For these purposes, form-stable fibrous structures and fabrics, whose performance has been optimized with regards to the final application, shall be equipped with spatially well-resolved, conductive or piezoelectric structures via an ink-jet or screen printing process. Alternatively, prior to transformation into fibrous structures and fabrics, high-performance fibers can be coated with a functional polymer, which sustains the aforementioned additional features. Another goal entails the realization of transparent fiber-matrix composites for sight areas. For these purposes, the refractive index of either thermo- or duroplastic matrix polymers must be adjusted to fit the one of the fiber. Apart from that, fully amorphous or semicrystalline matrices with crystallite diameters d<40 nm shall be generated.
