Project Details
First population studies of two types of evolved stars in binary systems
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
from 2017 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 325816898
After a thorough investigation of the hot subdwarf population focusing on the most common core He-burning objects and the development of new tools and models to get the most out of the excellent new data we now have access to, we now plan to go a step further and apply those tools to two yet unexplored classes of hot sub-luminous stars. We will perform the first systematic study of the hot and bloated population of extremely low-mass white dwarfs and also study the population of wide, astrometric hot subdwarf binaries, in particular the entirely new class of hot sub-dwarf B stars with compact companions in wide orbits.
