Rail vehicle brake with hydraulic-mechanical brake torque control

Subject Area Traffic and Transport Systems, Intelligent and Automated Traffic
Automation, Mechatronics, Control Systems, Intelligent Technical Systems, Robotics
Term from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 329131681

Aim of the project is the investigation and validation of a novel configuration of hydraulic-mechanical railway brakes in active and passive type of operation with brake torque control based on the research of the Self-energizing Electro-Hydraulic brake (SEHB).Practice-proven rail vehicle brakes will be modified to systems with direct brake torque control. In a first step, suitable brake systems are selected and analyzed with regard to their dynamic behavior. In a second work package, hydraulic-mechanical subsystems are derived and systematized to realize the static and dynamic characteristics of typical transfer elements of power and signal transmission. The results are used to develop appropriate structures for brake torque control both at actively and passively operating brake systems. Next, prototypes are created and will be validated on an existing brake test rig. The research is completed by the equipment of a full test vehicle and subsequent test runs under real operating conditions. Hence, the desired brake torque can be controlled robustly even under changing external conditions and the brake performance potential of the overall system can be used optimally.
