This subproject is reconstructing the evolution of practices of power comparison since the 1970s. Using the example of the transatlantic community of states, it inquires to what extent and in which respects the evolution of practices of comparing has been shaped by transnational communities of practice. It combines longitudinal studies on debates about the international distribution of power in Canada and in the US as well as in the UK and Germany with case studies on the corresponding debates in the context of the G7/G20 and the EU.
