Thermomechanically coupled damage model for operating loads – predicting service life of formed parts (C01)

Subject Area Mechanics
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278868966

The developed anisotropic and gradient-enhanced model for ductile damage (coupled to plasticity) is extended by quasi-brittle damage (coupled to the energy release rate) for operations at higher cycles. The numerical implementation takes place by an efficient time homogenization in a variational, thermodynamically coupled setting. In addition to calibration and validation, the experimental analysis characterizes the influence of forming-induced initial damage on the cyclic performance. The effect of operation conditions is quantified with respect to relevant load paths, geometries, heat treatments, and test temperatures and is characterized by the associated mechanisms.
