Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) MIMO Radar systems are a promising approach to mobile material characterization, ranging, and imaging. Within MARIE’s 1st phase, we could show that FMCW transceivers can be used for highly accurate measuring the relative permittivity of dielectric materials as well as for range estimation to single-digit microns. In the 2nd phase, we are going to intensify the investigation of radar-based material imaging to examine complex-shaped and multi-layer materials. Our central question deals with material imaging techniques using THz MIMO transceivers, which requires a closer study for the calibration of hardware sensor impairments.
