S05 focuses on the creation of an in-room material map by moving or even flying robots in shortest time. Therefore, computer architectural concepts for realizing a near-sensor energy-efficient MARIE processor are investigated, such as configurable functional units supporting approximate computing and application-specific instruction set extensions. In parallel, digital signal processing methods and algorithms for object detection, classification and material characterization are investigated, such as THz Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging with extreme bandwidths and infrastructure based highly precise Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM). S05 collaborates closely with the other M- and S-projects as well as with C03 and C09.
