Project C1 will study how agents extract visual information from uncertain environments and integrate it into internal models. We will both develop computational models with simulated artificial agents and perform psychophysical measurements in human observers. Based on our computational models, we will study how humans build and maintain internal models, and how they adapt them to unexpected violations of regularities in the environment. To study the updating with new information, we will develop methods to measure evidence accumulation and to evaluate the ability of agents to differentiate different degrees of uncertainty.
