The focus of this project is on the understanding and further development of the activation of dioxygen in molecular metal siloxide systems. The aim is to investigate how the activation can be influenced and how subsequent steps proceed, respectively, to arrive at functional systems employable for the oxyfunctionalization of hydrocarbons. Hence, the project is not concerned primarily with finding catalysts that show high TOFs and TONs but rather with fundamental, stoichiometric investigations for the directed construction of novel homo- and heterobimetallic superoxido, peroxide and oxido metal moieties as well as with the discovery of new elemental steps. Of course such insights in the medium term form the basis for the development of catalytic/applicable systems, and whenever this is obvious research in this direction will be carried out.
