Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

In collaboration with Dr. D.N. Kozlov (A.M. Prokhorov General Physics Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences) the laser-induced gratings (LIGs) technique was developed to accomplish first simultaneous spatially- and temporally-resolved measurements of temperature and species concentration. This method was demonstrated and tested in a laboratory pressurized fuel injection system. The achieved concentration and temperature results are comparable to combined CARS/Raman measurements we performed at slightly different operation conditions in the past. A comparison the standard deviations of both measurements show that the concentration determination is more precise with the LIG approach proposed here and the temperature measurements are more precise with rotational CARS. The proposed evaluation procedure is suitable for a temperature regime relevant for injection processes. The propane concentration range which could be addressed is up to now limited up to approx. 4% of propane. This has to be enhanced in future. Possibilities are e.g. to perform a two-dimensional fit of the complete LIG-signal or to use a Fast Fourier Technique (FFT). This seems to be attractive because a significant data reduction can be achieved and the evaluation will be faster. A FFT has the additional advantage that noise could be separated from the signal. Also using the modulation depth of the LIG signal is a possible way to overcome this limitation. In a future proposal this should be investigated. Additionally it would also be interesting to find out if the LIG approach developed here, using a combination of thermal and electrostrictive contribution, could be applied for other fuels relevant in engine combustion.
