Since its founding in 2008, the Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaft (ZfM) [Journal of Media Studies] has become the central publication for media studies informed by cultural studies and has contributed to the conceptual consolidation of the field. Published by the Society for Media Studies (GfM), and managed by its members, the ZfM appears twice a year with the publisher diaphanes. The ZfM considers itself a forum for discussion of the entire spectrum of topics and methods that have informed the interdisciplinary orientation of media studies, both historically and in the present. The ZfM fosters discussion of current approaches in German-language media studies as well as of new research topics and debates within the discipline. An international advisory board and regular translations ensure close connections to international research. Every issue contains a special topic, which is curated by changing guest editors, as well as additional editorial rubrics. The editors of ZfM work independently. The publication of essays follows a peer-review procedure. All essays are archived electronically and are made available in open access on the publisher's website (www.diaphanes.de) after a waiting period of 12 months. Furthermore, the ZfM operates its own website, which provides an archive and index of past issues, as well as a professional forum. Additional web content along with debates in the politics of science and scholarship extend the services provided by the journal across media and test new formats of scientific and scholarly communication (www.zfmedienwissenschaft.de).
