The coordination proposal for PP 2089 Rhizosphere Spatiotemporal Organisation – a Key to Rhizosphere Functions – Phase 2 provides a brief introduction to the concept and hypotheses of the PP (section 1.1), gives a short overview of experimental platforms and joint sampling approaches (section 1.2) and comprises the summary of research findings from phase 1 (section 1.3.1 – 1.3.6). This summary also contains the field related measurements conducted by the coordination, which are not presented elsewhere. Data integration and initiation of joint manuscripts is addressed (section 1.3.7) and the aims and objectives of the PP in phase 2 are delineated (section 1.4) including research questions and associated shared experiments for phase 2. A specific challenge is the integration of data from different scales and disciplines (section 1.5). This leads to the specific tasks of the coordination (communication, PP-database BExIS, soil plot experiment, organisation of meetings/workshops, X-ray service, public relations) which all aim at enabling data synthesis (section 1.6). First examples of integrated work are listed in the bibliography (section 1.7). Given the limitation in space, description of research findings is very brief aiming at presenting results in an integrated manner. Likewise detailed description of new shared experiments will be found in the respective individual proposals.
