Erzeugung definierter Suspensionstropfen in einer laminaren Dehnströmung

Subject Area Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering
Term from 2006 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 36412494

Based on the previous projects, the disintegration behavior of non-miscible fluids in presence of particles within a contracting channel geometry shall be examined. Technical goal is the formation of equal sized droplets containing equal numbers of particles at high flow rates of the system. The particle to drop size ratio is proposed within the range of 0.1 < dP/dT < 0.5 with smallest particles larger than 0.3 mm. For that reason also at high particle loads only few particles are entrapped with the droplets. The drop formation is to be examined within the dripping as well as within the laminar jet breakup region. The viscosity ratio of the fluid as well as the absolute viscosity is to be varied. However only low Re-Flow conditions Re < 10 will be considered. By changing the wetting properties (contact angles) of the particles to both of the fluid phases the particles should migrate to the drop surfaces there to act as catalyst particles with mutual highest activity. The wetting properties are to be changed by chemical modification of the particle surfaces. By annular removal of the continuous fluid, dispersions with high volumetric disperse phase content ≥ 0.4 should be achieved. These dispersions will then be used and characterized according to their reaction kinetic properties in capillary reactors within the Sub-Project C1 at the TCB group of Prof. Agar.
