This project develops expertise in the CRC for studying and modeling the trial-by-trial dynamics of behavior and neural activity during acquisition and extinction learning. We will coordinate an effort to systematically study variations in learning dynamics across different levels: intra-individual, inter-individual, task types, and species. We hypothesize that these differences can be explained by history-dependence, parameter differences, or model class differences. Additionally, we will explore how contextual distinctness influences learning rates in extinction learning and coordinate the development of theories on learning dynamics, context-dependence, and ecological implications of extinction learning.
