Lattice QCD at non-vanishing density will study equilibrium strong-interaction matter at small temperatures and baryon chemical potentials of order of the nucleon mass. The infamous fermion sign problem of QCD can be overcome in specific parameter regions (large quark masses near the continuum or small quark masses at strong coupling), by analyzing two corresponding effective lattice theories derived analytically: a 3-dimensional effective theory of Polyakov loops and a reformulation by a dual representation. We will investigate the onset transition and baryon matter with the aim to establish an overlapping parameter region in quark mass and lattice spacing between both formulations.
