Spin-magnetohydrodynamics (B03)

Subject Area Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 315477589

This project will study the role of spin, vorticity, and magnetic fields in the evolution of heavy-ion collisions and neutron-star mergers (NSMs). Non-central heavy-ion collisions create the most extreme conditions of fluid vorticity and magnetic fields in the Universe. These influence particle polarization and induce novel effects like the chiral magnetic effect (CME). The goal of this project is to complete the derivation of a theoretical framework of spin-magnetohydrodynamics, applicable in flat as well as in curved space-time, couple this to hadronic transport including the dynamics of spin degrees of freedom, and study applications to the dynamics of heavy-ion collisions and NSMs.
