Project Details
Metabolic regulation of adrenocortical function (A07)
Subject Area
Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Term
since 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 314061271
A07 studies the regulation of glucocorticoid production by adrenocortical lipid metabolism. Particularly, it examines the role of FADS2-dependent PUFA synthesis and regulation of cholesterol synthesis by polyamine metabolism in adrenocortical steroidogenesis and tumorigenesis. Human and mouse primary adrenocortical cells, adrenocortical carcinoma cell lines and mouse models will be employed. Moreover, they will examine the therapeutic potential of icosapent ethyl-mediated FADS2 downregulation in the reduction of chronically elevated cortisol in obese individuals.
