Active control of energy conversion in correlated oxides by spin currents (A06*)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2017 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 217133147

Aim of this project is to control energy conversion by exploiting the spin degree of freedom in correlated materials. To reach this goal, we inject spin currents into correlated oxides via the Spin Hall effect and study the system dynamics after an optical stimulus using transient reflectivity and the magneto optical Kerr effect. First, we will demonstrate control of magnetization dynamics by spin currents on timescales from femto- to nanoseconds. Secondly, we aim to control energy conversion by modifying the magnetic, electric, and structural degrees of freedom to tune the interplay of spin, electron and lattice dissipation channels via spin current-control of the materials phase.
