Project Details
A dynamic analysis of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling as a mechanism of synapse organization and plasticity (A03)
Subject Area
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term
since 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 317475864
Based on a quantitative analysis of the pre- and postsynapse, as performed during the first funding period, we propose that a novel mechanism of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling has a strong link to synaptic stability and plasticity. We will therefore monitor pre- and postsynaptic structural dynamics, while inducing plasticity-related changes, in control conditions or under perturbation of ECM remodelling. These experiments will also target the mechanisms of ECM remodelling, at the synapse and whole-cell levels.
