PSD-95 provides slots for the anchoring of AMPA receptors (AMPAR), which mediate fast excitatory synaptic transmission. AMPARs show activity-dependent dynamics related to conformational changes upon binding to glutamate. We aim to provide a holistic view of synaptic dynamics by placing the movement of AMPARs in the context of pre- and postsynaptic protein diffusion. We will focus on surface AMPARs located at the PSD, therefore those directly involved in synaptic transmission.
