Syntax of post-translational protein modifications by UBLs in presynaptic function (A09)
Subject Area

Term
since 2017

Post-translational protein modifications (PTMs) are essential for the development and function of neurons, and play a pivotal role in synapse formation and synaptic transmission. Our recent focus has been on the two most abundant Ubls in brain, SUMO2 and NEDD8, which are both essential for the survival of mice. We now plan a systematic analysis of the logic and syntax of the most prominent Ubl-modifications in neurons, sumoylation and neddylation, and an in depth analysis of two novel SUMO2 substrates, ELKS1αB and PRRT2.
