Synapses are basic computational elements of neuronal processing, and their dynamics have been hypothesized to be the basis of a multitude of functions, from information processing to short-term and long-term memory. However, precise structure-function relationships have remained hard to establish. The future work in this project will build on experimental findings from the SFB1286, to address theoretically aspects of release face architecture and dynamics that are critical to synaptic working memory.
