We propose to establish a comprehensive theory of nanoscale geometric focusing of synaptic calcium domains and to predict nanoscale patterns of preferred calcium sensor positioning, resulting in resources and a simulation toolbox to assess nanoscale geometric focusing effects from multimodal nanoscale assays of synapses and synaptic release sites. In particular, we propose to study how preferred sensor positioning depends on release face organization and buffer conditions.
