In the project, the formation and the rheology of the lubrication layer during concrete pumping is investigated. Special attention is paid to the pulsating nature of the pumping process. For this purpose, the meso-scale two-phase flow field consisting of cement and coarser grains (sand and agglomerates) is modelled in an experiment and in numerical simulations. Details of the two individual phases (cement and coarse grains) are resolved separately in the two-phase flow especially near to pipe walls. Here, the focus is on particle migration and segregation during the permanently changing acceleration and deceleration periods of the two-phase flow. Flow rules for the two-phase flow in the lubrication layer are formulated with respect to the researched correlations between the individual meso-scale parameters of cement and coarser grains in the two-phase flow field.
