Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

I had a very valuable chance to learn how to design and characterize a full PET scanner. The complexity of the readout architecture and of the hardware design was a new topic to me and the results obtained are very promising so far. PETA ASICs have been successfully integrated on the brain PET insert under design at Stanford University. Many sub-modules have already been assembled and characterized. Due to the difficult assembly, I have suggested few modifications to be made in the next version in order to improve the yield. The readout driver board and the relative firmware architecture I have designed, are now being used for data acquisition in the laboratory and in the magnetic resonance experiments. Rigorous measurements of the mutual effects between PET and MR are still going on, but the first results have shown how a good shielding Faraday cage seems effective in isolating PETA from noise pick-up and in maintaining the resolution at the same level as in the laboratory. Additional measurements are necessary to prove the full scalability of the readout architecture, the cooling infrastructure, the power distribution and to quatify the mutual interference of the two technologies. All these studies are going on at the moment at Stanford University.
