Project Details
PECD and PICD effects in chiral and achiral molecules (A01)
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
since 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328961117
The goal of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of circular dichroism (CD) effect upon the absorption of a single high energetic photon. To this end we will use a COLTRIMS reaction microscope that detects emitted electrons and ions in coincidence to study CD effects in unexpected constellations: Can a photoelectron CD (PECD) be observed in an initially achiral molecule, thus a system where it shouldn’t show up? How is PECD affected by secondary electron emission (Auger decay)? Is a CD effect observable on the ion left behind?
