Since 2019, researchers from the Cluster of Excellence "Data-Integrated Simulation Science (SimTech)" at the University of Stuttgart have been developing a new class of simulation- and data-driven approaches that enhance the applicability and accuracy of simulations, changing the way we conduct science and technology. From crash tests to climate change, simulations enable us to get closer to and predict the behavior of complex reality using computer-assisted dynamic models. Consequently, simulation technology has become an indispensable component of research and development in various fields, playing a crucial role in technological progress in our society. Research in the field of simulation science has been ongoing at the University of Stuttgart since 2007. The Cluster of Excellence 2075 "Data-Integrated Simulation Science (SimTech)," established in 2019, aims to achieve a new paradigm through the systematic integration of data into simulation science. SimTech explores novel modeling and computational methods from an engineering perspective, aiming for increased accuracy, reliability, and applicability through data integration. This orientation of the cluster raises numerous new research questions. Large datasets derived from sensor measurements, data collection, experiments, and simulations open up new avenues for gaining knowledge. Data analysis methods have gained significant importance but are often challenging to comprehend and typically cannot consider physical foundations. A deep understanding of complex systems can only be achieved based on principles of natural science. Therefore, our long-term goal is to systematically integrate data extracted from various sources into the modeling-simulation-analysis cycle to achieve a better understanding, more accurate predictions, and more reliable decisions. The core of our research lies in engineering and natural sciences, where the University of Stuttgart has particular expertise. In addition to knowledge acquisition, promoting young talent is a central focus of our work. With the Bachelor's and Master's program "Simulation Technology," we lay the foundation, which we continue for our doctoral researchers and postdocs in the Graduate School "GS SimTech." Furthermore, we have established seven junior research groups and four junior professorships on various topics.
