Occupations and Social Inequality

Applicant Dr. Andreas Haupt
Subject Area Empirical Social Research
Term from 2018 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 390932624

Research on the importance of occupations for social inequality has gained more attention in sociology in recent years. However, no research associations have been forged so far which pair up researchers on this topic. With the founding of the Research Initiative Occupations and Social Inequality we have laid the foundation to change this circumstance and on its base, we would like to establish a long-term forum independent from individual or institutional ties. Therefore, in the setting of a scientific network, junior researchers and established experts shall be brought together in six meetings over the next three years. In these events, open workshops shall take turns with internal colloquia. The workshops will deal with current, broad main topics while the internal colloquia will be held to discuss theoretical and methodical questions and to open up new research activities between members of the network. With the foundation of the network we would like to: improve communication on plans, projects and results in the context of research on the importance of occupations on social inequality in Germany; by intensifying communication on theories, contents and methods contribute to a continuous development of the research on this topic; through better networking encourage more cooperations; give a new impetus for research projects in the context of occupations and social inequality; render the topic of occupations more visible in sociology and adjacent disciplines and thereby establish interdisciplinary relations.
