Development of interface concepts using averaging techniques (A03)

Subject Area Mathematics
Fluid Mechanics
Term since 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 327154368

Classical coupling concepts for free-flow and porous-medium systems are valid for uni-directional flows parallel to the interface. In the first funding period, generalised coupling conditions for arbitrary flows in single-phase systems have been developed using homogenisation theory. The objectives of the current project are: (i) derivation of interface conditions for arbitrary flows in coupled two-phase systems using averaging techniques; (ii) determination of effective model parameters; (iii) validation of the derived interface conditions numerically and experimentally; (iv) development and analysis of efficient numerical methods for new problem formulations; and (v) benchmark study of coupling concepts for free-flow and porous-medium systems.
