Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

Droplet dynamics was experimentally investigated in different configurations, with focus on impact on hot plates at ambient and reduced pressure. TIR was extended to investigate the solidification in direct vicinity of the substrate during spreading and impact on cold surfaces. Experimental methods were mainly high-speed shadowgraphy, frustrated total internal reflection (in Twente) and synchrotron X-ray imaging (at Argonne Ntnl. Lab, USA). Beyond hot substrates, investigations of solidification processes in spreading drops on cold substrates and coalescence processes were investigated. New methods were learnt and developed. In particular, the unforeseen highspeed X-ray measurements still contain a multitude of insights. The development of micro-electronic surface temperature sensors and investigations of impact on oily / deformable surfaces shall be continued in follow-up research.
