The implantation of the early embryo into the uterine wall is a key step in the mammalian reproductive cycle. This process is mediated by the trophoblast cells that invade the uterine stroma at the embryo-maternal interface. Here, we aim to decipher the cellular mechanisms of trophoblast invasion and the regulatory principles of this process through the crosstalk with the endometrial stroma using a 3D in vitro model in combination with in vivo analysis in early mouse embryos.
