Families are central to a wide array of government policies, from tax systems and social security to labor market regulations, all of which often have gender-specific effects. The project explores different dimensions of family life and how they are affected by market failures and government policies. We consider the family in the labor market, study family formation including fertility, marriage, and divorce, and address the accumulation of human capital and wealth. We will also study families in developing countries. The project involves theoretical and quantitative components.
