This project aims at the biofabrication of complex tumor-stroma models to specifically study the migration of breast cancer cells as a function of stromal parameters. Using bioinks with controllable physicochemical properties, the influence of structure, mechanics, and matrix remodeling on cancer cell migration is systematically characterized. In spatially defined compartment models, we analyze in depth how neighboring stromal cells from adipose tissue influence directed single cell and collective migration of breast cancer cells. These bioprinted 3D models will enable a profound understanding of the dynamic tumor-stroma interplay and its role in tumor progression.
