Subject Area

from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier

This project explores how Western Kenyan Luo, who perceive themselves as excluded from grand schemes of future making and intensification, migrate to the Rift Valley and redefine scale through practices of roaming (testing) and infrastructuring (ordering). The project focuses on (a) wage labor in multinational companies, (b) land leasing and farming in changing agricultural zones, and (c) fishing and tourism in aquatic spaces to explore how migrants engage with social-ecological transformation between zones of intensification, conservation and decay, and become apprentices to their own future practice.
