Semiclassical typicality in open quantum systems

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Theoretical Chemistry: Electronic Structure, Dynamics, Simulation
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2018 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 399787697

The goal of the project is to describe and to understand the equilibration dynamics of a system proper in contact with a heat bath on the wavefunction level using a semiclassical formulation of the quantum dynamics of the (finite) composite system. We will focus on systems of continuous variables where, in contrast to spin systems, every single degree of freedom already has an infinitely large Hilbert space. Using the time-dependent semiclassical (hybrid) approach, composite systems with more than 100 degrees of freedom can and will be treated explicitely. Different well established measures will allow to investigate the time scale of the equilibration dynamics and its dependence on system size.
