Carbon Nanotubes for Energy

Subject Area Physical Chemistry of Solids and Surfaces, Material Characterisation
Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term from 2018 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 400008013

Currently the use of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for energy applications is limited by several factors. These challenges include the development of new methods to prepare and enrich CNTs in large quantities and with high purity, the development of methodologies to manipulate carbon nanotubes into 2D and 3D structures and their interface with appropriate acceptor/donor materials. This project aims to solve these challenges with 3 work packages. The project will develop a new organic phase exchange based separation process, will develop chirality pure CNT-aerogels for use in bulk heterojunction solar cells, and will use the internal cavity of large diameter carbon nanotubes for dye functionalization.
