Collective non-equilibrium dynamics of ferromagnetic nanoparticles with a finite anisotropy in a viscous liquid

The project objective is to uncover and understand new non-equilibrium states of ferrofluids induced by strong time-periodic external magnetic fields. The project has two main sides, theoretical (Sumy) and computational (Augsburg) ones. The key idea on the theoretical side is to account for both the mechanical rotation and internal magnetic dynamics of a nanoparticle; the influence of thermal fluctuations on this combained dynamics will be investigated within the frameworks of the Langevin and Fokker-Plank formalisms.Computational part is aimed at the development of new algorithms to simulate large ensemble of nanoparticles on graphics processing units (GPUs) and validation of theoretical results. We expect that non-equilibrium mechanisms and effects can provide additional means to control ferrofluids and pave a way to their new applications and technological solutions. In addition, the anticipated results will contribute to a better understanding of ferrofluid physics and improving the knowledge of properties of complex magnetic nanostructures.
