3D integrative modelling and upscaling of root water uptake (B04)

Subject Area Soil Sciences
Term from 2007 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 15232683

The parallel 7 m long rhizotubes at the two sites of Selhausen allow for a quasi non-invasive monitoring of root growth and soil processes at the plot scale by minirhizotron cameras, GPR antennas, and an NMR slim-line tool. The derived mathematical description of small-scale heterogeneities caused by individual roots will - on the plot scale - be substituted by simpler effective parameters and relationships between soil water availability, root water uptake, and plant canopy status for agricultural crops. These will be implemented in the land surface model CLM.
