Final Report Abstract

During this reporting period, it was investigated whether the grain fineness of a cylindrical semifinished product can be improved by cross rolling and whether the ultra-fine grain specification can be achieved. In the first work package (WP), FE simulations were used to investigate whether a stable rolling process can be developed. A rolling process was set up which locally changed the shape of the semi-finished product in the first part and returned the second part to its original shape. Thus, the input and output shape was a cylinder. A parameter study was used to identify favorable rolling parameters, from which a parameter window to produce good parts was established and a parameter combination in the parameter window for the experimental investigation of WP 2 was selected. The investigation of the microstructure showed that rolling has a positive influence on the microstructural properties and thus confirmed previous theoretical investigations. The result of ultra-fine grain size could not be achieved.
