Taking the works of Harun Farocki and his influential concept of operational images as a starting point, the project will examine the transition from human to posthuman practices of comparing in the digital visual culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. The project will investigate the ways in which algorithmical practices of image search, image distribution, image processing, and image use have decisively changed the concept of comparative viewing.
