Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term

This project aims to combine for the first time ultracold chemistry with cavity quantum electrodynamics. Electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations will be tailored by a high-finesse microcavity to stimulate and simultaneously detect chemical reactions (photoassociation) between ultracold atoms. Going from single particles to ensembles which are collectively coupled to the same cavity mode, we aim at the observation of collective effects. In particular, collectively enhanced photoassociation ("super-radiant chemistry") will be studied.
