Upgrade of the HORUS Ge-array

Subject Area Particles, Nuclei and Fields
Term Funded in 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 417749746

The HORUS Ge array including its recent extensions with particle detectors and fast LaBr3(Ce) scintillators, is one of the most used instruments at the 10MV Cologne Tandem Accelerator. Three of the four research groups at the Institut für Kernphysik are intensively performing both experiments as well as developments based on the Ge detectors of HORUS. These detectors are also used for campaigns by the research groups for RDDS and DSA measurements at the Cologne Tandem operator and for experiments at the research reactor of the Institut Laue Langevin in Grenoble using cold neutron capture and neutron induced fission fragment spectroscopy (AG Jolie). Part of the HORUS detectors are eleven EUROBALL capsule detectors purchased in the mid nineties. To bring HORUS to todays state of the art, we ask for seven 80% efficient Ge detectors. This will highly improve both the energy resolution and the efficiency of HORUS.
