Digital Edition of Cuneiform Texts from Haft Tappeh (Iran)

Subject Area Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 424957759

The aims of the planned funding phase directly follow those of the current phase: the publication of the Haft Tappeh text corpus. After the critical edition of the text finds from the excavations of B. Mofidi-Nasrabadi, those from the excavations of E. Negahban are now to be edited. The aim is thus to produce a complete edition of all known Haft Tappeh texts. The Akkadian of the Middle Elamic I period, which has hitherto stood alone, will be comprehensively studied and published, thus closing a gap in the research of cuneiform tradition. This also includes the development of a comprehensive palaeography of the cuneiform texts from the Susiana, which is now to be completed. The results achieved and methods established in the existing funding phase also make it possible to carry out an analysis of administrative practice in Haft Tappeh in addition to the purely philological work. The successful cooperation between Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Computational Linguistics will also be continued. Thus, the expansion of the CuneiformWorkbench into a generic recording, annotation and editing environment for the FAIR provision of cuneiform texts is planned. A central role will be played by the expansion of the domain-specific ontology model for mapping palaeographic and linguistic features, annotations and archaeological contexts.
