The future development of sustainable organic synthesis and catalysis at the Faculty of Chemistry at the Georg-August-University Göttingen, along with establishing the new Wöhler research institute on sustainable chemistry, translates into a significant increased number of low molecular weight compounds, which have to be characterized by mass spectrometry. Therefore, a high resolution mass spectrometer equipped with electron and chemical ionisation and a direct inlet system is required. In addition, the direct coupling of gas chromatography with high resolution mass spectrometry is in high demand. With the requested mass spectrometer an effective mass spectrometric characterization of small molecules can be provided. Furthermore, the 9-year-old time-of-flight (TOF) instrument will largely applied for the analysis of air sensitive samples, and the shut down sector field instrument as well as the outdated GC-MS system will thus be replaced. Additionally, continued measurements of complex samples can be performed by GC-HRMS to support the research in the field of sustainable synthesis, especially studies on C–H activations with 3d transition metal catalysts and on novel group transfer reagents as well as transition metal free bond formations using CO2.
