Crash simulation of entire vehicle structures is of great importance in the development process of vehicle construction. The load-bearing behavior of the entire vehicle structure is considerably influenced by its joints, whereby the joint areas in the crash simulation must be represented by simplified models. In order to validate the simplified models, sample component tests, which allow the mapping of application-oriented load conditions, are absolutely necessary. However, the current testing facility for performing validation tests under crash loading on component-like specimen geometries regularly reaches its physical limits. Furthermore, the decisive influence of temperature and humidity cannot be taken into account, especially in the case of adhesive joints. The lack of suitable high-speed cameras makes it impossible to evaluate the failure behavior at high test speeds. The large-scale equipment applied for here expands the existing research possibilities and enables the Research Department to carry out corresponding investigations experimentally and consistently continues the previous and future focus of the Research Department third-party funding research.
