Aesthetic thinking in theory and practice of atticism

Subject Area Greek and Latin Philology
Term from 2019 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 430145800

The project aims at correlating concepts on the forms of aesthetic autonomy, manifesting itself mainly acoustically — sound and rhythm —, that are being discussed in modern literary criticism, and comparable ancient positions. Atticism proves to be useful in this regard, since one of its objectives is to maximize the efficacy and beauty of language. The project seeks to correlate these theoretical complexes with the results of studies that will be gained from theoretical as well as literary texts composed under the influence of Atticism. Thereby, the project intends an increased understanding of the potential impact of those texts on the one hand, while examining, specifying and extending that which is being postulated by the theories.
