Professionalization of the eResearch-infrastructure of research data on motor performance - motor research data (MO|RE data). Measures for networking, improvement of usability, quality assurance and sustainability
Final Report Abstract
The aim of the funding was to develop a scientifically sound e-research infrastructure (cloud-based) for research data on motor performance to make it reusable for different target groups. With the public go-live of the eResearch infrastructure MO|RE data in December 2016, the project objectives of the 2014-2016 funding phase were fully achieved. At that time, the data repository offered the possibility of uploading data and preparing it for citation, as well as mapping 27 motor test tasks. The development of the MO|RE data database initially closed a large gap in the provision of data and research in sports science. However, there were still gaps and potential, so the project team applied for further funding from the DFG in April 2019. The following objectives were formulated for the follow-up funding: Improving usability, Expansion of quality assurance and recommendations for action, Networking the service with a broad infrastructure, Internationalisation of the service, Preparation of the application for the CoreTrustSeal certificate and implementation of the certification process, Ensuring sustainable operation through technical and organisational measures. Eight work packages (data collection, user experience, expansion of quality assurance, networking with infrastructures, internationalisation, certification, sustainability, public relations) were used to achieve the above-mentioned goals. At the end of the project, 5 out of 6 goals were achieved (including quality assurance, sustainability) and some exceeded (including networking, usability). Due to unforeseen challenges, such as interface problems with RADAR4KIT, and limited interaction with the sports science community due to COVID-19-related adjustments in conferences and exchange, the goals were largely, if not completely, achieved. The open data and RDM sector is currently experiencing rapid developments (e.g. NFDI, EOSC, German Research Data Act), the potential of which is far from being fully utilised. The optimisation and further development of MO|RE data is therefore in the midst of an extensive, sustainable process. There are currently 40 comprehensive datasets stored on MO|RE data, including 19 aggregated and 21 raw datasets with a total of 63,117 personal datasets. The project group has also published 14 publications with scientific quality assurance as well as 14 other publications. In addition, the associated website has been updated and now offers new video tutorials, 30 FAQs, a glossary, a test library and information about the project and the people and institutions involved. Sustainable operation is ensured by the IfSS at KIT. The further development of the project is supported by the connection (1) to the consortium KonsortSWD with the development of a research data centre "Motor Performance" and (2) to the Leibniz ScienceCampus "Digital Transformation in Research" (DiTraRe) via the use case "Sensitive Data in Sports Science".
