The input data in both, field and experimental, geomaterial research directions are chemical compositions of mineral phases as well as the crystalline structure and crystallographic orientation of the mineral phases. The electron microprobe with multilayer crystals for analyses of light elements (Be, B, C, N, O, F), requested here, will be used for following microstructural chemical characterizations: High-resolution point and profile analyzes capturing major, minor and trace components (up to ~ 0.001 wt%); Trace element analysis with high X-ray spectral resolution; Non-destructive quantitative analysis on a micro- to nanometer scale, especially for valuable samples such as drill samples, meteorites, space missions or archaeological materials; Analysis of thin layers and extremely fine-grained materials; Diffusion profiles and quantification of two-dimensional element distributions; Quantitative analysis of minerals essential for geochronology and pressure and temperature estimates of mineral assemblages; Rapid elemental analysis of natural and synthetic glasses; Trace element analysis in carbonates from biomineralization or geothermal samples.
