Popular knowledge in teacher education. A study on current advice literature for teachers.

Subject Area General Education and History of Education
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 435371369

There is hardly any other profession for which so much guidebook literature can be found as for teachers. This finding raises the question of professional theory as to why there is an expansive market for guidebooks for this professionally trained group of people - especially since guidebook literature is usually declared to be a practical introduction for laypersons (DN 2024). In deepening of the work carried out in the DFG-funded initial project “Popular Knowledge in Teacher Education - An Investigation of Current Advice Literature for Teachers”, the proposed follow-up project will take a closer discourse-analytical look at the profession-related implications of the production and reception of advice literature for teachers. The first question is which images of professionalism and professionalization are produced and negotiated in the context of advisory publications. Secondly, the project focusses on the question, which significance is attributed to these publications by their producers and recipients.
